What is Awana?
Awana is a Sunday evening Bible-centered program for children ages 3 years old through 5th grade that focuses on learning God’s Word in a fun atmosphere. Each week, Awana provides consistent, positive teaching and training that stresses strong moral and spiritual values. Our clubbers learn about the reality of God and the truth of the Bible. Incentives and awards are used to encourage children to progress.
What is our Mission Statement?
“Empowering Tommorrow’s leaders how to live today.”
What is our Key Verse?
2 Timothy 2:15
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
Where do I send my children?
Please do not send your children unsupervised into the church building. Instead, take them to the registration table in the gym. Registration can help answer your questions, help you register your children, show you how to sign in your child as well as where to pickup your child, etc.
Why does it cost money for children to come to Awana?
Castle Hills Christian pays for the majority of the program but we do ask parents to help with buying your child’s uniform which could last 1-3 years depending on when the child is entering the program (normally 1-3 years) and for hand books which could last the whole year depending how focused your child is on memorizing Scripture. Please do not let money be the issue that keeps your child coming to AWANA. AWANA can work out a payment plan with you or can scholarship a certain number of children each year.
Do You Need More Volunteers / Leaders?
First, ALL volunteers in our Awana club ARE leaders. And all activities within the club are performed by volunteers. Awana at Castle Hills Christian Church is ALWAYS looking for Christians young or old, married or single who would like to serve the Lord by investing in the lives of children by volunteering some of your time. There are many roles we need, including working with children, registration, games, etc. All leaders must have a background check. If you are interested in this vital service, please contact us.
What Can I Do to Help My Child Succeed in Awana?
Week by week, your children will grow spiritually as they learn Bible verses. Experience shows that encouragement from a parent will make a big difference in the spiritual growth of your children. Please set aside time each week to help your children study their handbooks.
Some ideas that have helped other parents include:
• Write their verse on a 3×5 card and place it on the bathroom mirror, kitchen table or car. Then practice the verse when you are in that room.
• Include 15 minutes of Awana in with their nightly homework.
• Play a game with your child including memory work.
• Have your child test you on memory work they are learning without using the Bible..
Awana Clubs
Awana offers a series of clubs and programs, each geared to the needs of a particular age or grade:

3 – 4 year olds
Cubbies is the club for preschoolers during the two years prior to regular kindergarten (usually 3 and 4-year-olds – ideally potty trained). Cubbies is unique because it supports and maintains the parents as the primary source of spiritual nurturing by directly involving them in the teaching and learning process. Cubbies use fundamental Awana elements of Bible memorization, handbooks, awards, and activities. Developmentally appropriate lessons and activities combine basic Bible truths with popular preschool concepts of colors, shapes, numbers, and letters.

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
Sparks is the club for lively kindergartners, 1st and 2nd-graders. Each Club session is divided into three segments. In Game Time, Sparkies enjoy games played on the Awana Game Circle. During Sparkle Time, clubbers complete handbook sections. During Green Meadow Time, Sparkies gather for their Bible lesson.

3rd – 5th Grade
Truth & Training is the club for 3rd and 5th-graders. Each Club session is divided into three segments. During Council Time, they gather for their Bible lesson. During Handbook Time, children earn awards for memorizing scripture and working in their handbook. During Game Time, clubbers enjoy games played on the Awana Game Circle.
