Romans 6: 1-4

Big Idea: Your old life doesn’t get fixed; it gets buried.

Following Jesus doesn’t fix our lives, it gives us new life. This series goes through what Romans 6 says about baptism and the transformative power of following Jesus. Physically, baptism is the act of being immersed in, and then coming out of, water. But baptism is much more than a physical event; it has spiritual and symbolic significance. We can be dead to sin, raised with Christ, freed from sin's control, and alive to God.

New Series: Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 We sometimes make the mistake of thinking of the fruit of the Spirit as personality traits that you are either born with or without. Or we think of them as a menu of characteristics we can pick and choose to add to our lives when they are convenient. But, this list from Galatians 5 is what having the Spirit of God in our lives naturally produces. The word is fruit, singular, not fruits; these nine qualities grow together as one life. When we cultivate room for the Spirit to grow in us, it produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. For the next 9 weeks, we will be discussing what each of these qualities mean and how these qualities will affect our daily lives.
